Weather and Currency

| |

1) WEATHER: November and December are cold months in India. Delhi being in the north will be colder than Bangalore. Check the weather before you leave and make sure you pack appropriate warm clothing.

2) CURRENCY: Currently the exchange rate is about 48INR (Indian Rupees) to 1USD. Official Currency Exchange places can be found at the airport and fewer within the cities. In Bangalore, Thomas Cook on Mahatma Gandhi Road (known as MG Road for short) is located in the main downtown area and is reliable.

3) CASH VS. PLASTIC: Credit cards are widely accepted in most large stores and restaurants. You will be charged a conversion fee by the credit card company, but it is a safer option than using/carrying cash everywhere.

4) GETTING AROUND: For cabs and "rickshaws" (3-wheeler taxis) and small street-side vendors you will need cash. You have to first ask the cab driver or "rickshaw-wala" IF he will take you to your destination, as they are very picky about which direction they go with their customers. Also insist on having them turn on the meter. Our families are also looking to book cabs for the wedding event days.

5) GUARD YOUR POCKETS AND PURSES: Don't exchange too much cash in one instance and always guard your belongings. Pick-pocketers are common all over India.

6) BEGGARS: You may be overwhelmed by the number of beggars on the streets. Use caution if/when you decide to part with some cash.

7) ENJOY: We sincerely hope you will enjoy your stay and travels through our country. We will try and have some of our friends/family members designated for any advice/assistance you may need during your stay in India. Until then, we will try and address as many questions/concerns as we can in this blog before we/you leave.
